ERangeError scanning folders |
While scanning a source or destination folder, FileBack PC is finding files
that have invalid dates. When FileBack PC was written no check was
included within the software for invalid file dates, so when these files are
processed it is causing FileBack PC to generate error messages, such as a Range
Check Error, or other strange messages.
The behavior of FileBack PC will be fixed in the future. However, for
the time being, we have written a utility that will validate your file system
and fix some errors that can occur. This utility is available for free
download:
Click to download the
File System Validator.
This program does not come with an installer; extract the contents of the
.ZIP file and double-click FSValidator.exe.
This utility will scan for and correct several file system errors:

* Unicode filenames with associated DOS filenames can be "fixed" for
FileBack PC.
To use the software, open it as described above and click the "..." button to
select a folder to scan. Select the scanning options you desire and click
the Begin Search button. Folder scanning should proceed quickly.
Once the folder has been scanned a list of files with problems, if any, will
appear. Click, Shift-Click, or Control-Click the files to fix or delete,
and click the "Delete Selected Files" or "Fix Selected Files" button.
You may right-click on a file to view it in Windows Explorer or view its
Properties page.
Folders with invalid dates cannot be fixed. Windows does not have a
mechanism in place for manually changing folder dates. For FileBack PC
this will not matter; it does not attempt to process folder dates in any way.
